Description

17th November 2020 – The sea was hypnotising me

“The sea was hypnotising me this evening

I saw a plump seal lolling around

And I wondered about the old Irish stories of the Silkies (Irish seal mermaids)

Seals who can come ashore and remove their skin once a month under the full moon to appear like humans

They must make sure their skins are kept safe

because they can’t return to the water without them

I remember stories about the Selkie folk in Sharon Blackie’s wonderful book ‘If women rose rooted’ and in Clarissa Pinkola Estes underground classic ‘Women who run with the wolves’.”
