Echinacea-1
(2012) Charcoal and liquid Tempera Gouache on lining paper, 85 x 180cm.    This was the first painting from the Echinacea sketches that I made while I was in San Marcos, Guatemala. As you can see from the process slides, I started with a very simple sketch of an echinacea blossom and then let the painting evolve. This funny evolution into baby pinks and then into deeper darker reds and dark purples is what I love sharing here. And for me the piece is about its evolution: the layering of charcoal and paint on paper, guided by the movement of my body.
